So your SleepGuard biofeedback headband is misbehaving...
To find out if the problem is something simple, or if you need to send it in for warranty service or after-warranty refurbishment, please follow the troubleshooting procedure below:
The most likely thing is that the rubber sensor pads have oil on them or the carbon matrix in the rubber sensor pads has degraded. Try the following test procedure:
1) Remove the rubber sensor pads and wash them with soap and water.
2) Remove the module from the headband. Re-attach both rubber sensor pads so they stick out like wings from the module.
3) Get a piece of aluminum foil big enough so that the stainless steel beeper on the back of the module, and the ends of both rubber sensor pads can touch the aluminum foil at the same time.
4) Remove (unsnap) the rubber sensor pads and put them aside for the next few steps.
5) Place the aluminum foil flat on a table or counter top.
6) Turn the unit on. The tone should sound.
7) While the tone is sounding, push the metal beeper back and the two metal snaps down against the aluminum foil (all at the same time). If the tone stops, the module is fine and does not need repair (though the pads may need to be replaced - we check that next). If the tone does not stop, the module needs to be refurbished, in which case you can order refurbishment at http://StopGrinding.com/service.htm
8) If the tone stopped when you pressed down in step 7 above, turn the unit off and re-attach the rubber sensor pads so they stick out like wings from the module.
9) Turn the unit on (tone should sound).
10) Press the outward ends of the rubber sensor pads (not the snaps themselves) down against the aluminum foil at the same time as pressing the stainless steel back down against the aluminum foil. If the tone stops, both the unit and the rubber sensor pads are OK, and the problem is you are not getting a good contact from the rubber sensor pads to your head while wearing the unit. If the tone does not stop, the rubber pads need to be replaced, and you can order a new set at http://StopGrinding.com/service.htm
The easiest way to get good contact is to wash your forehead and temple areas before each use of the biofeedback headband, and to apply a small droplet of water to each rubber pad and to the stainless steel back each time you put the unit on.
If you are someone who finds that even after using a droplet of water on each sensor pad, that the sensor pads occasionally disconnect when you roll in your sleep, you can make even better contact (and help the sensor pads stay stuck to your head when you roll) by putting a tiny dab of KY jelly on each sensor pad before putting the unit on your head. If you still find that you hear beeps when you shouldn't when you roll, you can order a set of foam-backed sensor pads at http://StopGrinding.com/service.htm. The foam backing on these pads springs them in toward your head even when the headband pulls away a little as you roll. They provide more consistent contact during movement than the original pads.
